📝 Item Description

Title: Large 13” Vintage Northeast Woodland Native American Ash Splint Lidded Fancy Basket

Description:Up for sale is an exceptional, large-scale vintage Northeast Woodland Native American "Fancy Basket." Handcrafted from traditional brown ash splint, this impressive piece is a beautiful example of mid-20th-century Wabanaki / Mi'kmaq craftsmanship made for the New England and Eastern Canadian tourist trade.

Measuring a rare and substantial 13 inches in diameter, this basket is much larger than typical trinket boxes of the era, making it an excellent statement piece for a collection or a functional sewing/storage hamper.

Design & Craftsmanship: Construction: Features a masterfully woven radiating "starburst" or "pinwheel" pattern on both the interior and exterior bottom.

Accents: Embellished with striking, hand-formed twisted curly loops and a prominent band of vibrant coral-red dyed ash splint accents.Interior: The interior remains exceptionally clean, preserving the bright, unfaded contrast of the original dyed ring.

Signatures: This piece is unsigned, which is entirely correct and typical for authentic souvenir trade baskets of this era.

Condition Report:This basket is in excellent, highly collectible vintage condition. The ash splints are strong, pliable, and free of cracks. The dyed curly loops are entirely intact with no fraying or crushed edges. The upper rim wrapping is perfectly secure.

Flaws: The only minor sign of age is that the decorative top handle loop on the lid is slightly loose from normal handling over the decades. The splint material itself is NOT broken or damaged. (Please review all high-resolution photos for exact condition details).

Dimensions:Diameter: Approx. 13” wide ~6” high ( including handle).

This beautiful piece of Americana history will be packed with extreme care using plenty of bubble wrap and a sturdy box to ensure safe transit. Please ask any questions before buying!
