Full Description:

Up for sale is an incredibly rare, turn-of-the-century optical illusion advertising postcard issued for the City National Bank of Plainfield, New Jersey.

Titled "Pick The Winner," this interactive novelty item features a clever barrier grid/lenticular-style mechanism. By pulling the tab and sliding the transparency sheet or flexing the card ("BEND TO AND FRO"), the image shifts to reveal the political candidates of the era. The internal composite image depicts a detailed portrait overlay alongside the US Capitol building.

The postcard was manufactured by the Bankers Specialty Service Co. of Chicago, Ill., serving as a promotional giveaway to entice savers with competitive rates of the day (3% Interest on Checking Accounts of $500+ and 4% Interest on Savings Accounts of $10+).

Condition:

• Good vintage condition given its age and fragile paper/film construction.

• Light surface wear, minor edge/corner scuffs, and faint discoloration consistent with age.

• There is a vintage pencil notation at the top of the postcard back reading "Hughes & Wilson 1915", referencing the historic 1916 Presidential Election matchup between Charles Evans Hughes and Woodrow Wilson.

• The mechanical overlay slide is fully intact and still separates from the frame window as shown in the photos.

This is a fantastic crossover collectible perfect for collectors of vintage bank advertising, optical illusions, early mechanical postcards, or New Jersey local history.
