Palmer, flying ship No. 13, at an average of 140.2 mph over eight laps of a ten-mile course (eighty miles total), turning a fastest lap of 153.7 mph and lapping several rivals along the way.2nd Lts. George F. Kinzie (138.84 mph) and Francis Ziegler (136.14 mph) completed the podium; all three flew the Curtiss A-3 Falcon for the 3rd Attack Group. Carried on the wire from Cleveland to Galveston to Buffalo, the contest was reported as the fastest race of that week\'s meet.The A-3 was the attack development of the Curtiss Falcon: a liquid-cooled D-12-powered biplane fitted with wing guns and underwing bomb racks.
