Up for sale is a wonderful piece of maritime history: an authentic, vintage 11-inch souvenir sailor doll from the famous Holland America Line ocean liner, the SS Statendam. Dating back to the 1930s, these dolls were purchased as keepsakes by passengers traveling across the Atlantic.
Features & Details:
• Size: Approximately 11 inches tall.
• Head: Painted composition head with charming, side-glancing eyes and hand-painted facial features.
• Body & Outfit: Soft dark navy fabric body with classic bell-bottom trousers. Features a stitched white-and-blue striped sailor collar bib and a matching white sailor cap.
• Cap Ribbon: Features the original black tally ribbon clearly printed with "STATENDAM" in gold/faded lettering.
• Feet: Smooth, flat oilcloth/canvas style soles (unmarked).
Condition:
This doll is in excellent vintage condition for its age (around 90 years old!). The painted face is remarkably vibrant with minimal paint loss or crazing. The fabric body is structurally sound with no open seams, tears, or major moth damage. The hands and fingers are fully intact. The fabric shows minor, normal age-related linting and slight yellowing on the white collar/cap trim as expected with an authentic antique of this era.
