Vintage 1935-1936 Reading Senior High School Student Courtesy Card – with Hand-Drawn Back Portrait!
Up for sale is a fascinating piece of 1930s high school sports and student ephemera from Reading, Pennsylvania. This original "Student Courtesy Card" was issued by the Reading High School Athletic Association for the 1935-1936 season (and looks to have been neatly updated by hand for the 1936-1937 season).
Issued to student Ray Gristwite, the card originally entitled him to special student rates for "Athletic Contests away from home."
The Unique Twist:
The back of the card features a wonderful, original hand-drawn pencil sketch of a woman's face, meticulously detailed with 1930s hair curls, signed below with the name Dorothy A. Rentschler. A fantastic piece of student folk art hidden on a piece of sports history!
