***Due to its age it is not recommended to use this kit for first aid treatment of a snake bite.***
This item is a vintage green metal MSCo Snake Bite Kit tin, likely dating from the mid-20th century (around the 1940s to 1950s) and manufactured by the M. Co. (Saunders / Mine Safety Appliance style) for emergency first aid.
- Historical context: Compact metal pocket tins like this were commonly included in military, industrial, and wilderness survival first-aid gear.
- Contents: Historically, these kits typically contained a small scalpel/lancet, a rubber tourniquet, a suction pump or cup for venom extraction, and antiseptic.
Modern medical advice: Medical consensus has shifted away from cutting and suction methods for snakebites; current first aid recommends keeping the person calm, immobilizing the bitten limb, and seeking immediate emergency professional medical treatment.
Tin has a tiny bit of rust, wear and residue on the edges where tape has been removed. Kit is still in great shape for its age, a very unique vintage item!
