Vintage German Thanksgiving turkey candy container, made during the post-WWII U.S. occupation period.
Marked on bottom:
US Zone Germany
This marking generally dates the piece to approximately 1945–1949.
Hand-painted papier-mâché/composition turkey with black body, red head, blue-gray face detail, striped tail feathers and green removable base. The base opens to allow the figure to be used as a candy container.
Measures approximately 3½–4 inches tall.
Condition: Original vintage condition with noticeable age wear. Paint loss, cracking/crazing, scuffs and chips are visible, especially around the red head/neck area. Tail and body remain intact and the original bottom label is present. Please review all photos closely for exact condition.
A nice example of early postwar German holiday folk art and Thanksgiving décor.
