Vintage 1950s ZippoLighter USS Skipjack SSN 585 Nuclear Submarine Pat 2517191
From our research, the USS Skipjack (SSN-585) was the lead ship in her class of nuclear powered submarines Commissioned in 1959.
The heavy brassing conveys that this lighter was \"in the sandbox\" and heavily used by a sailor back in the day.
Aside from the brassing here are some other details about this historic lighter:
The insert has heavy wear from probably being refilled many times. The entire patent number is not present as most of it has rubbed away, but you can still see the first four digits that say 2517. Those number are very difficult to see and we had to use a magnifying glass to confirm that they are there and are a match to the outer case. Despite our macro lens, the writing is so faint it would not photograph, but you can see it under magnification.
The lid has about 1/16\" play in either direction but opens and closes as it should and makes the Zippo \"click\".
The striker wheel turns but you would want to replace the flint if you are going to use it.
The spring is in tact and has good tension.
Please have a look at all of the pictures we have taken with a macro lens so that you can enlarge them with minimal blurring or photo degradation.
Thank you for looking.
