Vintage circa 1953 Duro Mold & Manufacturing Strato Bank XU 232 mechanical rocket and moon coin bank.

Fantastic early Space Age design featuring a futuristic rocket aimed toward an embossed crater-covered moon. These mechanical banks were produced by Detroit-based Duro Mold and distributed through banks and credit unions as promotional savings incentives during the 1950s.

This example retains portions of its original advertising decal for:

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio

The rocket is marked XU 232.

The original design allows a coin to be placed into the rocket mechanism and mechanically launched into the slot in the moon. The Henry Ford Museum documents the same circa-1953 Strato Bank design and Duro Mold manufacture.

This example is being sold in vintage collectible condition. It shows substantial age-related cosmetic wear including paint loss, scratches, oxidation/pitting, staining, surface marks, and significant wear/loss to the original credit-union advertising decal.

The bottom coin-access door/trap and key are missing, leaving the rectangular access opening exposed as shown in the photos.
