This 1959 Puerto Rico road map (Spanish Edition) was issuedby the Standard Oil Company (Esso). The cover shows Castillo de San Felipe delMorro and old San Juan. The map was published by the General Drafting MapCompany. The date code on the map is “W259-4A”. This map is in excellentoriginal condition as shown in the photo.
I bought part of this archival collection about 6 years agoand the rest of it recently. I first saw some listed on and bought them.The seller then explained that she had a few more boxes of these from theGeneral Drafting archives and I was able to buy the lot. Her husband andanother guy were in charge of donating the maps to the Newberry Library whentheir company bought General Drafting. One pallet of maps would not fit intothe two semi-trucks filled with the maps. They made several attempts to contactthe library to make alternative arrangement for shipping the maps but got noresponse. So they split them up and took them home. She told the other guy ofmy interest in these maps and he recently contacted me and I was able to buythem also. There is a variety of maps and all are stored in dated envelopeswith 1 or 2 maps in each. Most are stamped and/or dated on the cover, but a feware not. Over the next few years, I will be offering many of these here on.
