Vintage 1960s 70s Large Pleated Linen Lampshade 19.5\" Mid Century Spider Shade For Sale

Beautiful vintage circa 1960s–1970s large tailored pleated lampshade, exceptionally clean and very well constructed. This is a substantial decorator-quality shade with the wonderful heavily pleated textile treatment associated with upscale lighting of the period.

The exterior is covered in a warm beige / ivory linen-look woven fabric with a slightly coarse, canvas-like texture. The fabric has been formed into dozens of deep, crisp accordion / knife pleats, creating a dramatic architectural texture around the entire shade. Viewed from above, the individual folds form a striking repeating triangular pattern.

This is not a little accent shade—the bottom measures nearly 19 1/2 inches across, giving it the proportions needed for a substantial vintage table lamp, ginger-jar lamp, ceramic lamp, brass lamp, urn lamp, or other statement-size fixture.

The gently tapered drum silhouette, neutral natural-fiber appearance and extensive pleating give it a wonderful 1960s–1970s Mid-Century, Hollywood Regency and traditional decorator aesthetic. It could easily serve as the finishing touch on a period lamp restoration while remaining neutral enough to work beautifully in a contemporary interior.

The bottom is approximately 4 1/8\" wider than the top, producing a handsome, gently tapered profile rather than a straight cylindrical drum.

Excellent clean vintage condition overall, particularly impressive for a fabric lampshade of this age.

The exterior fabric remains clean and attractive with no notable stains, tears, crushed areas or major blemishes observed. The pleating remains remarkably crisp and uniform, and the interior is also quite clean.

Please note the original vertical construction seam at the back of the shade. Where the two ends of the pleated covering meet, the original glue application is somewhat crude and visible, including a small exposed glue spot near the upper portion. This appears to be original manufacture/construction rather than later damage or repair. It is shown clearly in the close-up finger-point photographs.

Because this is the rear seam, it can naturally be positioned toward the back of the lamp/wall when displayed.

The brass-tone spider frame shows some normal age-related patina and oxidation consistent with a genuine vintage shade.

A particularly handsome survivor from the 1960s–70s decorating era. Large vintage shades of this quality and size have become increasingly difficult to find clean—the shade itself often suffered far more than the lamp beneath it. This example has survived remarkably well.
