NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION & HISTORY
A marvelous piece of Southern California luxury hospitality history, this original 1960s wine list represents the legendary Les Frères Taix French Restaurant. Located historically on Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park after transitioning from its original downtown Los Angeles Commercial Street roots, Taix stands as one of the city's oldest continuous dining institutions. The cover is a graphic masterpiece, featuring a textured gold finish adorned with a vintage map of historic French wine regions, framed alongside the classic quote:"Un Repas Sans vin est une journée Sans Soleil"(A meal without wine is a day without sunshine).
The interior pages provide a phenomenal historical record of mid-century wine curation and pricing. The imported Bordeaux selections include premier growths like a 1959 Chateau Margaux for $20.00 a bottle, a 1959 Chateau La Tour for $19.00, and a 1959 Chateau La Fite Rothschild for $32.50. The domestic listings highlight classic mid-century California vineyards, spotlighting a selection of Beaulieu Vineyard specialties including their iconic Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon for $6.00 a bottle and Beaumont Pinot Noir for $5.00. The physical item measures approximately 9 inches in height and has a nominal weight of under 2 ounces (approx. 0.08 lbs / 36 grams). An exceptional, museum-grade display item for collectors of Los Angeles history, vintage enology ephemera, or mid-century commercial design.
