This is a genuine 1968 NSDA (National Soft Drink Association) convention commemorative bottle, made by Owens-Illinois for that year's national gathering held in Detroit. Before it was a collectible, it was a convention gift celebrating the Motor City at its peak.
Wrapped around the bottle in crisp white and silver graphics is a montage of Detroit landmarks and hometown pride: the Spirit of Detroit statue, Wayne State University, the "Auto Center of the World" slogan with a classic car, the Detroit Zoo, J.L. Hudson's department store, Metropolitan Airport, Greenfield Village, the Ambassador Bridge, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Sports fans will love the nods to the World Champion Detroit Tigers (1968 Series Winners!), the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Red Wings — a real snapshot of Detroit's golden sports era.
Standing approximately 9.75" tall with the classic crown-top bottle shape, this red glass piece shows honest wear consistent with its age — some enamel fading and loss around the neck and shoulder, with strong color retained through the lower body. A great display piece for a vintage soda bottle collection, Detroit sports memorabilia shelf, or man cave.
These NSDA/ABCB convention bottles were made specifically for the host city and were never sold at retail — a genuinely limited-run piece of Americana. Detroit history buffs, soda pop collectors, and sports memorabilia fans, don't miss this one.
