Date 1970's Based on the small rectangular blue paper label w/white outline & 3 text line: "MADE in JAPAN"Maker Yamanaka production circa 1975–1982 w/ wood cut horizontally across grain seen beneath the lacquered layers Comment previously owned, old and intact were found to be gently used and borught home and maintained to keep their found appearance; clean; no hairline fractures; many small paint chips, scratches and rubbed areas on each; however, the pair are in relatively very good condition for being a half-century or more years old.
We found this pair of traditional Japanese stacking bento boxes at a local estate sale. The two are pair of Japanese children: a boy with topknot-style hairline with short side hair blocks and simpler geometric patterning and agirl with rounded bangs, delicate side ribbons/hair ties and the floral motifs on her green and red kimono. We had seen many such Japanese items that we should have bought and brought back from Japan were we lived in late 1980's. It was not until nearly this century that we discovered such things available in Texas and in our travels throughout the mainland. Such items are displayed throughout our home and guest rooms. The first two and last pictures were taken with a black felt background using workroom lighting and the other pictures were taken in a camera tent; the empty Asahi bottle is not for sale, but to illustrate the relative size of the mug. We have removed the top know colored pull stings that were not original. Will answer all questions promptly.
