Original Vintage 1977 Roycroft Inn Restaurant Menu Saturday Luncheon East Aurora New York
The Roycroft Inn opened in 1905 in East Aurora, New York, when Elbert Hubbard converted the former Print Shop of the arts-and-crafts community he had founded there in the 1890s into lodging for the visitors drawn to the campus, and it became a gathering place for artists, writers, and thinkers. Its rooms carry murals by Barbizon-style painter Alexis Jean Fournier, sixteen of which survive from an original series of twenty depicting seasons, times of day, and world cities. Hubbard, whose 1899 essay "A Message to Garcia" made him famous and funded the campus's expansion, died with his wife Alice aboard the Lusitania on May 7, 1915. The Roycroft Campus, the Inn included, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986, and after the Inn closed it underwent an $8 million restoration backed by the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation, reopening to guests in 1995.
