The matchbook features the distinctive No Whar But Texas western-style logo and the slogan:
“Drinkin’, Dancin’ and Dinin’ in the Texas Tradition”
Inside it advertises “Live Entertainment 7 Nights a Week” and dinner beginning at 5 PM, with the Dallas telephone number [phone removed by ].
Period records allow this example to be dated unusually well. No Whar But Texas filed its federal trademark for restaurant and nightclub services in April 1982, and the club appears in the October 1982 Dallas telephone directory at this exact address and 369-3866. The 1983 Dallas Yellow Pages advertised No Whar But Texas as offering “Live C/W Entertainment 7 Nights a Week” and “Southern Cookin’,” closely matching the wording printed inside this matchbook.
The club became part of Dallas' 1980s country-western nightlife scene. Contemporary D Magazine coverage described No Whar But Texas as a North Dallas country-western dancing destination with a large dance floor and a crowd of Dallas cowboys and cowgirls. The club remained at 9840 N. Central through the decade, although its listed telephone number had changed by the 1989/90 directory.
