This 1985 Dragonriders of Pern calendar is a highly sought-after, oversized spiral-bound calendar published in 1984 by Mayfair Games Inc. It is historically significant as the only official calendar ever produced for Anne McCaffrey’s fantasy universe.
The calendar featured 14 unique illustrations (12 months plus a front and back cover) brought to life by acclaimed fantasy artist Tim Hildebrandt. The pages measure 9x18 inches, with the artwork taking up an 8x12-inch space. The artwork spans iconic scenes and characters from the original trilogy—including Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon—such as "Lessa Impresses Ramoth," "Jaxom and Sharra," and "Telgar Hold".
Anne McCaffrey (April 1, 1926 – November 21, 2011) was an influential American-born Irish writer best known for her landmark science fiction and fantasy Dragonriders of Pern series. Breaking significant barriers in speculative fiction, she became the first woman to win a Hugo Award for fiction (for the novella Weyr Search) and the first woman to win a Nebula Award, alongside having her 1978 novel The White Dragon become one of the earliest science fiction books to hit The New York Times bestseller list. Later in life, she relocated to County Wicklow, Ireland, and was eventually named a Grand Master by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in recognition of her enduring literary legacy.
Tim Hildebrandt (January 23, 1939 – June 11, 2006) was an American illustrator renowned for his extensive work in the fantasy and science fiction genres, primarily created in close collaboration with his identical twin brother, Greg Hildebrandt, as the Brothers Hildebrandt. Together, they achieved widespread international fame in the mid-1970s for their iconic, richly detailed painted calendars for J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, as well as their celebrated 1977 British theatrical poster design for Star Wars. Over a career spanning decades, Tim also produced numerous distinct book covers, comic art, and illustrations for multimedia projects like Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire before passing away in 2006.
