A Little Piece of Woodturner's Art1987

There is something wonderfully personal about an object shaped by hand.

The natural grain of the wood, the gentle curves, and the carefully chosen proportions all reveal a little of the maker's creative vision.

This beautiful vintage oak bud vase, dated 1987, is a charming example of decorative woodturning.

Crafted from richly grained oak, the vase features a gently rounded, sculptural base that rises into a slender, elongated neck before opening into a gracefully flared, asymmetrical mouth.

The warm honey-brown finish highlights the beautiful character of the oak, with its natural grain flowing vertically along the vase and creating a subtle decorative pattern.

At its center rests a removable clear glass tube insert, allowing the wooden vase to hold a single flower stem or small botanical arrangement without placing water directly against the wood.

The underside bears a handwritten marking reading HT 1987 OAK, identifying its hand-turned construction, date, and wood type.

Its beautiful organic shape makes it equally appealing displayed empty as a small wooden sculpture.

🌿 Why We Chose This Piece

We have always been drawn to pieces that celebrate the natural beauty of wood.

What caught our attention about this little vase was its unusual silhouette. The gracefully flared top almost resembles a flower opening toward the sunlight, while the narrow neck and softly rounded base give it a wonderfully balanced appearance.

The rich oak grain brings warmth and movement to the design.

We also love that the maker took the time to mark the underside with the wood type and year.

Created in 1987, this little vase has the individual character of an object made to be both useful and beautiful.

Its natural coloring and sculptural form work wonderfully with mid-century modern, Scandinavian-inspired, rustic, cottage, and botanical 6 inches (15.24 cm)

    Collector's Note

Hand-turned wooden objects have a special appeal because they preserve something of the maker's individual craftsmanship.

Each variation in grain, curve, and surface gives the finished piece a personality all its own.

This 1987 oak bud vase brings together the warmth of natural wood and the simplicity of an elegant sculptural design.

Its included glass insert makes it especially appealing for displaying a single flower, a favorite garden cutting, or a delicate arrangement of seasonal stems.

Whether placed on a bookshelf, windowsill, writing desk, or among a collection of handcrafted wooden treasures, this charming vase offers a lovely example of late-20th-century woodcraft.
