Striking hand-carved wooden Druk (Thunder Dragon) mask from Bhutan, featuring an expressive dragon face with large yellow eyes, open mouth, carved teeth and bold traditional painted decoration.

The mask is carved from wood and painted in shades of gray/blue, red, yellow, black and gold. A raised flame-like ornament crowns the top of the head, while the dramatic brows, elongated snout and individually carved teeth give the piece wonderful dimension.
The Druk, or Thunder Dragon, is an important national and cultural symbol of Bhutan, making this an especially interesting piece of Himalayan folk art and décor.
A label remains inside reading:
“HANDICRAFTS EMPORIUM
THIMPHU, BHUTAN”
with handwritten numbers, providing a nice indication of its Bhutanese origin.
The interior clearly shows the hand-carved construction and tool marks. There is also a simple wooden piece inside the mouth area and an attached cord at the top/back.
