This is a genuine vintage British Red Ensign — the historic \"Red Duster\" flown by British merchant and civilian vessels — made from sewn, pieced cotton bunting rather than a modern printed synthetic. The canvas heading is hand-stenciled \"BRITISH\" and \"3 x 5,\" a marking style typical of mid-20th-century flag manufacture, and the flag is fitted with two brass grommets. Measures approximately 36 inches on the hoist by 54–55 inches on the fly.
Honest condition: this flag shows its age. There are scattered rust and tea-toned stains throughout the canton and red field, consistent with decades of storage, and there is a small tear/hole along the fly edge with some fraying (see photos). The fabric remains sturdy and the printed canton colors are still clearly visible. This is a well-loved, honestly aged piece of maritime history, not a pristine museum flag — priced accordingly. No stand, pole, or display mount is included.
A great find for nautical and coastal decor, flag collectors, or anyone drawn to genuine mid-century British maritime history. Ships promptly and carefully packed in USPS Priority Mail.
