Up for sale is a vintage Buck Knives Model 103 Skinner with the early two-line \"BUCK / U.S.A.\" tang stamp in the inverted (tip-down) orientation. Buck used this stamp from about 1967 to 1971, before the model number was added to the tang. It predates the common three-line knives made from 1972 to 1986.
The knife has Buck\'s classic black phenolic handle, a cast aluminum guard and pommel, and red and aluminum spacers at both ends. The upswept 4\" skinning blade is straight, with a full, intact tip. The blade has been polished at some point and shows buffing marks and sharpening wear. [Describe the dark spot on the spine near the guard once you\'ve checked it.] The handle is tight, with no cracks or chips and only light surface scuffs. The aluminum guard and pommel show scrapes and dings from use.
It comes with a black leather Buck 103 sheath with \"BUCK\" embossed on the front, \"103\" stamped on the back, a snap retention strap, and a belt loop. The sheath shows its age. The black finish is worn through to brown on the back and along the upper front, and the leather is creased near the belt loop. The stitching is intact and the snap works. [Confirm the snap closes.] Because the model number on the back suggests the sheath may be slightly later than the knife, I\'m describing it as a period Buck 103 sheath rather than the knife\'s original factory sheath.
Overall length is about 8ΒΌ\". The blade is about 4\". [Measure to confirm.]
