Vintage Ceramic or Porcelain Collie or Shetland Dog Figurine from the 1950\'s For Sale

Foryour consideration is this vintage Collie dog figurine. This glossymid-century ceramic piece was most likely produced in Japan duringthe 1950\'s. It measures 4 ½ inches long, 3 ½ inches tall and 1 ¾inches wide. It features a distinctive glossy glaze finish, adetailed rough coat with hand painted shades of sable, white and darkcolors. There are no maker\'s marks, stamps or stickers on the bodyor bottom of the paws.

Iam the original owner of this vintage piece. It is in remarkablygood condition for a 65 year old piece. There are no chips or breakshowever the finish has a little crazing. Crazing is a network oftiny spiderweb like lines that form strictly in the clear glass likeouter glaze layer, not the actual ceramic body underneath. Ithappens over many decades as the ceramic base and outer glaze expandand contract at slightly different rates due to age, moisture ortemperature changes. For vintage mid-century ceramic imports (like those from Japan), mildto moderate crazing is incredibly common and generally expected bycollectors. It doesnot significantly hurt the valueof the piece, though an identical figurine in completely pristine,un-crazed condition might command a small premium. To keep the linesfrom darkening or worsening, avoid submerging the figurine in wateror using harsh liquid cleaners, as moisture and dirt can seep underthe glaze and stain the white ceramic base underneath.
