Comoy’sHighgate 623 Paneled - Pre-Cadogan
Beautiful vintage Comoy’s Highgate623 estate pipe featuring an attractive combination of smooth briar andcontrasting rusticated panels.
This is a Pre-Cadogan Comoy’s andretains the desirable three-piece inlaid Comoy’s “C” stem logo. Based on thenomenclature and construction, I believe this example dates approximately fromthe 1950s–1970s.
The smooth portions of the bowldisplay attractive grain, while the deeply textured panels give the 623 adistinctive appearance. The nomenclature remains clear and legible, includingthe Comoy’s Highgate, 623 shape number, and Made in London England markings.
A very attractive example of aclassic English-made Comoy’s that presents beautifully.

This estate pipe is in excellentoverall condition for its age. The briar presents beautifully, with anattractive combination of smooth grain and rusticated panels.
The rim is in very good conditionwith only minor signs of use and slight darkening along the inner edge. Thechamber is clean with a thin, even layer of cake remaining.
The stem has a glossy black finishand presents very well, showing only light signs of previous use, includingminor tooth chatter/wear near the bit. The three-piece Comoy’s “C” remainscrisp and attractive.
The stem fits the shank properly witha snug mortise-and-tenon connection.

HowI Care For My Pipes:
All of my pipes undergo an intensiverefurbishing and sanitization process. I first remove as much oxidation aspossible from the stem, first by hand, and finally utilizing a buffer usingthree separate compounds until the stems have a glossy shine. Finally, the stems are cleaned internally andexternally using 151 proof grain alcohol.
Next the bowl is cleaned andsanitized. First, I ream the insides ofthe bowls until there is a nice layer of cake left. Next, I remove by hand as much charring I canfrom the rim, and then repeat this process utilizing the buffing wheel andbuffing compounds. The outsides of thebowl are then buffed utilizing three compounds, the final one being a 100%Brazilian carnauba wax, so the pipe has a bright, gloss shine. Finally, I sanitize the stem, and the pipebowl utilizing 151 proof grain alcohol.
Although, I have thoroughly cleanedand sanitized this pipe, the pipe should be cleaned on your own prior to usingit. I always think this practice is a good idea for any estate pipe onereceives.
