A beautiful mid-century hand-painted porcelain covered ginger jar, acquired from a private estate. This piece features a unique commercial history: a crisp white blank porcelain body manufactured in Japan, which was then meticulously hand-enameled by artisans in a Hong Kong workshop (circa 1960s).
The primary panel depicts a highly detailed, traditional Chinese porcelain shop or workshop scene with figures surrounded by shelves of vases. The panels are beautifully framed by vibrant iron-red scrolling vine (Karakusa) patterns and smaller coastal harbor medallions. The jar is complete with its original custom-fitted, dark hardwood lid featuring pierced ventilation slots and a turned finial.
The piece is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or hairline fractures to the porcelain, and no damage to the wooden lid.
