Beautiful vintage hand-painted toleware tray, artist signed “Patty Blair” and featuring an elaborate floral design on a glossy black ground.
The center is decorated with a richly detailed bouquet featuring a bold red rose, large blue flower, delicate white and pale blue blossoms, and deep green foliage. Extensive gold-painted outlines, flourishes and scrolling accents add dimension and give the floral composition a wonderfully traditional tole-painted appearance.
Surrounding the tray is an especially attractive pierced / reticulated metal rim with an aged gold-bronze finish. The intricate openwork border gives the piece a much more decorative appearance than a standard solid-rim tole tray.
The floral artwork is signed “Patty Blair” with an additional hand-painted numeric/symbol inscription beneath the signature. Because the exact meaning of this inscription cannot be determined with certainty, no specific date is being attributed to the piece.
