Type: Oyama-ningyō (Oyama doll), specifically styled as a Maiko (apprentice geisha/child dancer). set, complete with a matching miniature framed fabric art panel.
Era: Showa period (mid-20th century).
Size: Doll stands approximately 15 inches tall; framed art panel provides a wonderful accompanying display element.
Features: The doll depicts a traditional child character holding an intricate folding fan (sensu). It features a traditional toso wood-sawdust and paste core matrix, a hand-applied gofun (pulverized oyster shell paste) finish on the face and hands, and dark inset glass eyes.
Attire: Dressed in a vibrant red patterned floral kimono with layered panels and a brilliant gold-brocade obi bow at the back.
Display Set: Includes a coordinating framed textile art picture depicting a matching traditional child figure under cherry blossoms, making this a complete ready-to-display vignette.
Condition Description
Overall Condition: Good vintage condition with nice eye appeal and vibrant colors.
Flaws to Note: There is a noticeable chip/loss to the white gofun finish on the tip of the doll\'s nose (please see close-up photos). The traditional wood-sawdust core is exposed at the base of the legs as standard for authentic construction. The framed art panel is in clean, well-preserved vintage condition.
