Decoration: Hand-painted polychrome autumn flowers, chrysanthemums, and wild grasses highlighted with extensive fine gold gilt scrollwork.
Base Mark: Hand-signed on the bottom in gold script characters reading 薩摩 (Satsuma).
Condition Report (Please Read Carefully):
Notable Damage: There is a distinct, prominent chip on the top outer edge of the cup\'s rim (see close-up photograph). The missing piece is not included.
Lid & Body: The lid is intact and fits neatly over the top, which mostly conceals the rim chip when displayed from the front. The fine spiderweb crackle network throughout the glaze is an intentional, traditional feature of original Satsuma earthenware. No other cracks, major stains, or restorations are present.
Decor Style & Utility:Despite the rim flaw, this piece remains a beautiful example of historic Japanese ceramic artistry. The brilliant gold paint reflects light beautifully, making it an excellent shelf display piece or a fine candidate for Kintsugi (the traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer)
