Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related wear and handmade variations. Bird retains beautiful blue hand-painted coloration and carved feather detailing. Striking vintage hand-carved and hand-painted Indigo Bunting bird carving/decoy attributed to Joel Zani.
This wonderful American folk-art style bird is painted in vivid shades of indigo blue, turquoise and teal, with darker facial markings, contrasting wing and tail details, and a distinctive red-painted eye.
The carving has wonderful dimensional detail. Individual wing feathers are carved and layered, while the body retains visible hand-carved texture beneath the painted surface. Metal/wire legs and individually formed feet secure the bird to a substantial rustic natural wood base.
The underside of the base bears the distinctive artist signature/monogram and appears to be numbered #80. The signature is very similar in style to other carvings attributed to Joel Zani. Artist attribution has not been independently authenticated, so this piece is being offered as Joel Zani (Attributed).
