-- This listing is for one (1)Vintage La Bajada Hill Between Santa Fe Albuquerque NM Postcard - Unposted. The lower right corner of the front has text of "121023." Text description on back of card: "La Bajada Hill, New Mexico. "La Bajada" is Spanish for "The Descent" or "The Drop" and descent or drop it certainly is, for it is a drop of about 800 feet from the rim of the mesa to the foot of the hill, which makes a drop of about 1000 feet to the lowland. The road, one and a half miles long, is one of the marvels of road building America, for it is cut out of volcanic lava in the face of an almost sheer precipice. It has 23 hair-pin turns, some of them having a very steep grade. In spite of all this, the road is perfectly safe, as all turns are widened to accommodate the largest automobiles, and those that might prove dangerous have stone retaining walls on the outside to prevent cars going off the road and down the cliff. The trip up or down La Bajada is always remembered by those going to or from the Pacific Coast over the Ocean-to-Ocean highway."

Card has very minimal marks and corner/edge wear, and appears in excellent condition for its age.-- Postcard comes from the collection of the elderly couple that lived next door to my grandparents. When that couple moved to a small apartment in their later years, they needed to downsize their various collections and gifted my grandparents their large postcard collection, with cards starting around 1900 and continuing for decades. Some cards are most likely ones they collected themselves (unposted, no writing), along with cards they received from friends who traveled extensively around the U.S. and the globe (handwritten notes, usually posted).-- We do not have the knowledge to grade any of our postcards -- please use your own collecting expertise along with our description and careful review/magnification of all pictures to best judge the card's condition.
