This vintage letter opener is thought to originate from the 1950s–1970s, a post-war era associated with the creation of ethnic decorative objects for the European market. It is crafted with a dark hardwood blade—possibly ebony or another dense tropical wood such as rosewood or African hardwood—and finished with a carved handle. Designed as a paper knife, it has no sharpened edge and serves as a symbolic, non-weapon object. Believed to be of African origin, this piece functions beautifully as desk decor and a collectible accent for admirers of African decor and tribal decor. This wooden decorative knife is suitable for opening mail and makes an exotic wood gift, a thoughtful writer’s gift, a meaningful gift for husband, and a bold addition to man cave decor or office decor.
