Vintage MSA W65 Self Rescuer respirator canister. Made in West Germany.This is an original Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) filter self rescuer used by underground miners for emergency escape from carbon monoxide. The stainless steel case is still closed with the lid in place. The red release lever is in the down position and the cover does not appear to have been removed. The inner respirator is believed to still be inside.Markings include:
• Permissible Respirator for Self Rescue MSA (worn paper label on front)
• Embossed MSA on the lid
• Bottom stamped W65 SELF RESCUER / MADE IN WEST GERMANY
• Handwritten / stamped numbers BW8207 and 1044
• Date Put In Service box is blankCondition:
• Used vintage example with storage wear
• Scratches, scuffs, and surface dirt on the stainless case
• Front paper label is worn and stained
• Red paint on the latch/lever is peeling
• Lid still seated / canister appears unopened
