Pair of vintage handmade folk art hand puppets, believed to be of Mexican origin, circa 1940s–1960s. These charming puppets display exceptional artisan craftsmanship throughout and are sold together as a matched set.
Construction details:
∙ Heads are hard papier-mâché with coarse fabric surface treatment and hand-painted facial features
∙ Applied felt hair
∙ Leather hands on both puppets
∙ Female puppet dressed in teal/green satin blouse over brown skirt with coordinating fabric hat
∙ Vaquero (cowboy) puppet dressed in full leather fringed costume with red fabric neckerchief
∙ Vaquero's hat is genuine hand-stitched leather with braided leather hatband — a standout piece of miniature leatherwork
Condition: Consistent with age and use. Paint wear on faces adds to their folk art character. No tears or structural damage noted. No maker's tags present — believed to be handmade by an individual artisan or small workshop.
A wonderful addition to any folk art, puppet, or vintage toy collection. Would display beautifully together.
