Artes Folklorico presents a spectacular vintage Mexican folk art pottery Charger by thecelebrated Ysauro Uriarte. His full name is Ysauro Uriarte Martinez. The famed artisantook over his grandfather’s historic workshop in Puebla, Mexico, in the early 1900s. TheUriarte facility remains one of the most distinguished and long-standing Talaveraworkshops in Mexico. The museum-quality plate, charger, or serving platter has all theelements of a masterclass. The central artwork features airborne birds engaging inbattle. The background features tall, wonderful cacti. The central artwork issurrounded by a ring of rich, dark brown glaze. The outer ring features a kaleidoscopeof Uriarte artwork in blue and white. Then there is another outer ring of the rich brownglaze. The outside rim is scalloped. The glazing throughout is wonderful. The back issigned ‘YU URIARTE PUE. MEX, followed by a long identifying number (see photograph).The piece's shape is somewhere between a charger and a large serving bowl. The pieceis quite heavy, measuring 14 inches in diameter and 2 inches in depth.
