Vintage Mexican Hand-Carved Wood Relief Panel Art – Poetic Dedication, Mérida, Yucatán (2008)
This is a stunning, beautifully detailed hand-carved wood relief panel depicting a traditional Mesoamerican / Mayan scene. The central artwork features a woman carrying a basket on her head beside a traditional thatched-roof palapa hut, framed beautifully by an integrated solid wood border. The carving showcases exceptional depth, capturing rich variations in the natural grain and warm reddish-brown wood tones.
The back of the panel features a highly unique, beautifully handwritten poetic dedication in Spanish, signed by Dr. Luis Alcocer and Dr. Juan Ramón Beltrán, dated April 6, 2008, from Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. The inscription reads as a tribute to ancestral wisdom and the great women of history, making this an incredibly evocative piece with deep cultural provenance.
Dimensions:
• Height: 20 inches
• Width: 12.25 inches
Condition Notes:
This piece is in good vintage condition overall with beautiful structural integrity. Please review the detailed photos to assess cosmetic wear: There are some minor light-colored scuffs and small superficial scratches along the right-side frame borders and inner edges where raw wood is lightly exposed. The back veneer shows a faded red mark/shadow from a past inventory notation that has been largely cleaned. These minor cosmetic imperfections do not detract from the striking presentation of the front carving.
A beautiful addition to any collection of Mexican folk art, fine wood carvings, or regional Latin American decor. Shipped securely to preserve its vintage condition.
