Vintage Occupied Japan Musical Bird Cage Clock | Wind-Up Singing Bird Cage Novelty Clock Automaton
This is a charming vintage musical bird cage clock marked Made in Occupied Japan, dating this piece to the post-WWII Occupied Japan period, circa 1945–1952.
This sweet novelty piece features a rich gilt style brass-tone bird cage with two small birds inside, a miniature numbered clock/time indicator, and an ornate silver-tone base with raised ornate floral scrollwork.
The underside retains the Made in Occupied Japan stamp. The piece ticks and plays music when wound. The birds dance back and forth as they sing. It works!
Measures approx. 7.75” tall x 5.5” wide x 3.75” D.
Condition is consistent with age with age to the bird’s feathers. The gold shine of the cage is luminous - there is some patina. Overall it displays beautifully.
Mechanical function is present .. ticks and plays music…but as with all vintage mechanical pieces, exact timekeeping and long-term function are not guaranteed. I have not tested the clock keeps accurate time.
The white bird moves back and forth/side to side to the ticking. The red bird bobs up and down to the music which is Oh, Suzanna.
Please keep in mind, shipping can sometimes move internal parts so it’s possible it will need servicing.
Please also note, any clock I have sold previously has arrived safely and working. It will be packed very securely.
