Vintage Peltro Italy Pewter Friar / Monk Figurines – Matching Set of 4
Wonderful matching group of four vintage Italian pewter figurines depicting whimsical friars/monks enjoying food, drink and leisure.
Each figure features the same distinctive caricature-style design with an oversized round nose, broad hat, detailed robes and humorous expression.
The four different figures depict:
• Seated Friar – holding a bowl/dish with food
• Drinking Friar – carrying two bottles/jugs
• Feasting Friar – carrying a platter with a whole roast pig and food
• Smoking Friar – smoking a long curved pipe with a covered vessel/container beside him
The figures bear “MOD. DEP.” and “PELTRO ITALY” markings along with a recurring emblem/monogram.
Peltro is the Italian word for pewter. “MOD. DEP.” is a registered-design marking found on vintage Italian decorative objects and is not believed to be the manufacturer’s name.
The exact manufacturer and production date have not been identified.
These four figures have matching construction, styling, scale, markings and finish and are being offered together as a coordinated group. We have not independently confirmed how many different figures were originally produced in this series, so this listing does not represent the group as a guaranteed complete factory set.
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with substantial age-related patina, tarnish/darkening, scratches, finish wear and discoloration throughout. Areas of contrasting warm/gold-tone coloration are visible, particularly on some figures. Please review all photographs closely for exact cosmetic condition.
No obvious major breaks or missing components were observed. Of particular note, the long projecting pipe on the smoking friar remains intact.
