Gorgeous complete vintage set of 12 crystal glass knife rests originally imported by Pier 1 Imports. A stylish pattern referred to as: Swirl, Bamboo or Twisted Rope.
These elegant knife rests were crafted in historic Hungary and feature a timeless sculptural bamboo swirl design that catches the light beautifully making them a must have for holiday tablescaping and formal entertaining. All 12 are completely unused and brand new in their original factory storage boxed. Authentic European pressed crystal. Please note that only 2 of the knife rests have their original Pier 1 label. Both container boxes have their original labels.
A bit of History about Knife Rests...
The tradition of the individual knife rest dates back to the late Georgian and Victorian eras. They were invented out of necessity to solve a common high society dining problem. They prevented the heavy juices and grease of used carving knifes or dinner utensils from touching (and sometimes ruining) the hostess' pristine expensive white linen tablecloths. The trend kind of faded a bit during the mid century era but has returned not only for modern tablescaping enthusiasts but for collectors. And just for elegance sake
While the 12 pieces are pristine and in flawless condition in their original factory storage boxes - Please note that one of the thin cardboard storage boxes has a dented/torn corner as shown in the final photo. Also in the photos I did a close up on a dark black background and one close up in the box on a white background
