This is a hand-painted piece from Portugal in the majolica style. Despite its thickness I don't see any crazing. It is signed and it also has a paper label indicating that it was sold to Chambers bed and bath of San Francisco California.
And if memory serves me right in the late '80s Williams-Sonoma bought them. Chambers was a high-end linen store.
