Here is a striking vintage real photo postcard capturing the dizzying view looking downstream from the very top of Fontana Dam in North Carolina. The sweeping landscape shot shows the Little Tennessee River winding through the incredibly dense forests of the Great Smoky Mountains along with the electrical grid infrastructure sitting quietly at the base. The back features a postmark from Gatlinburg Tennessee dated October 1951 and a genuinely funny message from a tourist named Carmen who hilariously notes to her friend in Iowa that they have seen more trees than we could possibly write about and more souvenirs than we can buy.
