A striking piece of mid-century glamour - a REUGE Swiss carousel cigarettedispenser carved from banded green onyx, the kind of object that once sat on acocktail table and opened its little doors to offer guests a cigarette.
Standing about 33 cm (13 in) tall, the onion-dome lid is crowned with a tinycherub musician, and the base rests on cast mask feet. Silvered scrollworkframes each onyx door, and the natural cream and red veining of the stone makesevery piece unique.
The underside carries the original red REUGE label: a two-tune Swiss musicalmovement playing "Edelweiss" and "Lara's Theme" from Doctor Zhivago.
PLEASE NOTE - SOLD AS IS:- The music movement does NOT play. Please buy this as a decorative piece or a restoration project, not as a working music box.- The metal mounts show tarnish and spots of rust from age.- The onyx shows natural veining and colour variation. All details are shown in the photos.
