Vintage Roma 800 Silver Rosary Green Malachite Glass Beads Crucifix Italy For Sale

A complete five-decade Catholic rosary in banded green glass, with a hallmarked 800 silver crucifix marked Roma.
THE MARKSThe crucifix is marked on the reverse, along one arm, reading outward:

The centerpiece is marked on its rim, on the outer edge of the halo ring: a matching oval stamp containing 800.
800 in an oval is the Italian silver standard: 800 parts per thousand, or 80% silver. The oval-enclosed numeral is the Italian convention, and alongside the Roma script it places the piece as Italian silver.
Both stamped mounts are the crucifix and the centerpiece. The chain, the links, and the bead spacers are unmarked and haven't been tested; the near-black tarnish on the chain is how silver behaves rather than brass.
The small rectangular stamp is the Italian assay lozenge, and it carries a star. Italy added the star to its silver marks under a law of 30 January 1968; the mark runs star, then the silversmith's registration number, then a two-letter province code, alongside the separate oval carrying the fineness. So this rosary was made in 1968 or later. The number and the province letters are worn past reading.
Roma is a place rather than a maker. It marks this as Roman pilgrimage work, from the trade that supplied visitors to the Vatican and the city's basilicas.
THE BEADSRound beads of banded, swirled green glass imitating malachite, which the trade calls malachite glass. These are glass — not plastic, and not natural malachite stone. The swirl varies from bead to bead and the gloss is intact throughout.
CONSTRUCTIONEvery bead is wire-linked on its own eyepin, with short runs of fine cable chain between the decades and through the pendant. Small flat spacers sit between most beads and their loops. Eyepin-per-bead work is a step above cord-strung or all-chain souvenir rosaries.
All 59 beads are present, the full traditional count: 53 Hail Marys and 6 Our Fathers. Nothing is missing and nothing has been replaced.
Below the centerpiece the pendant runs in the traditional arrangement: one bead, three beads, one bead, then the crucifix.
MEASUREMENTS18 inches from the base of the crucifix to the top of the loop. The crucifix is 1.5 inches tall and the beads are about a quarter inch across. It weighs 50 grams in total, glass beads included.
THE CRUCIFIXA Latin cross with flared, notched spade ends on all four arms, an open ring set at the crossing behind the figure, and the INRI scroll at the top. Three-nail corpus.
THE CENTERPIECEA bell-shaped plaque holding a veiled bust of the Virgin in three-quarter view, set inside an open halo that breaks the top of the frame. The modelling is flattened and geometric rather than naturalistic. The reverse face is plain; the 800 is stamped on the rim.
