This is a pair of vintage Hollywood Regency-style cast brass swan planters (often referred to as catchalls, trinket dishes, or planters). Here is everything indicated by their construction, design, and markings:Object Overview & Function
Type: Pair of nesting/matching swan vessels (one head angled upward, one angled downward).Common Uses: Air plant/succulent planters, vanity catchalls for jewelry or keys, candle holders, or standalone shelf decor.Era/Style: Mid-to-late 20th century (c. 1970s–1980s) during the height of the Hollywood Regency brass trend.Material & Manufacturing Details
Material: Solid cast brass with dark antiquing accenting the feathers and wing relief. Casting Process: They were made using sand casting or investment casting in two vertical halves. The prominent vertical seam visible down the interior and the textured, unpolished inner cavity are classic signs of rough sand casting. Assembly & Drainage Hole: The centered hole through the base of each vessel was used during manufacturing to bolt or secure the piece during machining, assembly, or display mounting. If used as planters, this also serves as natural drainage.Markings:
Internal Stamping: The stamp inside the cavity shows letters—most clearly an \"A\" on the upper rim wall. In mass-produced vintage brass imports (typically originating from Taiwan, Korea, or India during the 1970s and \'80s), these letter/number stamps were internal mold cavity codes used by foundry workers to pair matching mold halves during casting and assembly, rather than a artist\'s signature. Base: The underside features a flat-ground finish with residual adhesive on one base where a felt protective pad or maker\'s paper foil sticker was originally attached. Please see photos for minor imperfections
