Condition
Very good antique condition. No cracks, repairs, or crazing observed. There is one tiny flea bite on the rim (see photos) and light age-related staining inside the jug, as shown. The exterior displays beautifully with vibrant hand-painted colors and excellent overall presentation. Please review all photos carefully as they are part of the description.

Offered is a delightful antique Shelley England mermaid cream jug designed by renowned illustrator Hilda Cowham. This charming nursery ware piece features a sweet blonde mermaid seated on a wave with a sculpted sea-green wave base and softly scalloped rim.
The underside bears the Shelley England backstamp along with Registered Design No. 724421, dating this design to the late 1920s. Originally produced as part of Shelley’s whimsical nursery ware line, this scarce jug is highly sought after by collectors of Shelley, Hilda Cowham, mermaid memorabilia, and English porcelain.
