Vintage Soviet-era Russian lacquer miniature box from the Mstera school, titled «МЕТЕЛЬ» (The Blizzard). The lid features a traditional folk winter scene of a man in a red coat gesturing toward a woman in a red dress and headscarf, set against wooden village houses and swirling snow motifs. Black lacquer exterior with gilt ornamental borders; bright red lacquer interior. Artist signature reads approximately “Серова М.” with “Мстера” marked on the lid edge.
Approximate size: 5.5” long × 3.5–4” wide.
Condition: The lid shows noticeable yellowing and some crazing/cracking in the lacquer that makes the painted image more difficult to see clearly in person and in photos. There is age-related surface wear and minor scratches consistent with vintage use. The hinge functions and the interior is clean. Please review all photos carefully.
A solid example of classic Mstera lacquer work with the expected aging of Soviet-era pieces.
