Vintage St Joseph Jesus medal Oratoire DuMont Royal Montreal Quebec Canada 1960s For Sale

An old Catholic religious medallion (incense) with images of St. Joseph with the Child Jesus and a lily in his hand. Subject: The medallion bears the inscription "ST. JOSEPH". On the bas-relief there are images of St. Joseph the Betrothed, who is next to the little Jesus Christ. The left side of the composition has a distinctively blossomed flower lily - a traditional Christian symbol of the purity and innocence of St. Joseph. Material: Designed with a characteristic oxidation (greenish color), made of bronze or brass. Length from the loop to the edge is 1 inch (2.5 cm).On the reverse, the inscription "ORATOIRE S. JOSEPH DU MONT ROYAL" is clearly visible. This is a pilgrimage medal of the Oratory of Saint Joseph on Mount Royal (Montreal, Quebec, Canada). The reverse depicts the Oratory of Saint Joseph itself—a famous Catholic basilica, the largest church in Canada and boasting one of the largest church domes in the world. The church is dedicated to Saint Joseph, and its large-scale construction began in 1924.The relief shows the fully completed basilica building with its distinctive dome and apse (the dome was completed by 1941, and the interior decoration was finished by 1967). The medallion was made as a souvenir for pilgrims visiting this Canadian holy site. Minting period: 1940s–1960s.
