Beautiful vintage Tibetan Buddhist tabletop prayer wheel, or Mani wheel, featuring multiple rows of the sacred Om Mani Padme Hum mantra.
Constructed in brass-tone and copper-tone metal with a cylindrical rotating prayer wheel mounted on a wide pedestal base. The wheel is richly decorated with raised script, beaded borders and a domed top terminating in a pointed finial.
Prayer wheels are traditionally used in Tibetan Buddhist practice and are rotated during prayer and meditation. Om Mani Padme Hum is one of the best-known Buddhist mantras and is closely associated with compassion.
Measures approximately 5 1/4" tall with an approximately 3" diameter base. Please see measurement photos.
Likely handmade in Nepal/Himalayan region based on the form, materials and construction, although no maker or country-of-origin mark was found.
