Vintage WWII Eberhard Faber Van Dyke 331 Pencil Extender Holder
This \"Model\" of Pencil Extender by Eberhard Faber (# 331) was initially produced with a tubular metal attachment (i.e., attached to the solid wooden barrel). Due to the steel shortage during World War II, almost all businesses struggled to replace metal components with molded alternatives as much as possible. Because \"Bakelite\" and \"cellulose\" were also expensive during the war, businesses strived to use cheaper plastic.
However, the molded tubularattachment for the listed pencil is relatively thick and strong, so it could be made from either a moderate-quality plastic or a modern version of hard rubber. I personally couldn\'t tell.
The history of this pencil extender is rich, making it a significant collectible artifact for E. Faber collectors and enthusiasts of writing instruments in general.
This pencil extender came with many other WWII artifacts, including several pencil extenders of the same model, all featuring the black non-metallic tubular attachment, except for two that had the original metal attachment. Other models and brands of pencil extenders were included with the lot I purchased. I am selling only the pencil extender listed in the photos, nothing else, not even the ruler shown in the images. I am willing to share some pictures of the lot I purchased with the winner of this listing, if requested.
