Vintage WWII USMC Eagle Globe Anchor Sweetheart Locket 12K Gold Filled: $110.00
Vintage WWII USMC Eagle Globe Anchor Sweetheart Locket, 12K Gold Filled A World War II-era sweetheart locket: a round 12K gold-filled case with a die-struck Eagle, Globe and Anchor — the U.S. Marine Corps emblem — applied to the front, on its own fine gold-filled rope chain. This is exactly the kind of piece a Marine's wife or sweetheart wore during the war, and the emblem still shows crisp, well-defined detail. What's Included - One (1) gold-filled locket necklace on a rope-link chain, with the Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem applied to the front.
- The locket hinges open to two round photo wells; both are empty.
- One (1) small vintage fitted presentation box.
Size - Locket approximately 7/8 in diameter.
- Chain approximately 18 in.
- These are close estimates rather than caliper for its age.
- The gold-filled case is bright front, back and rim, with no wear-through to base metal noted.
- The applied emblem shows crisp, well-defined relief, with natural darkening in its recessed areas.
- No chips, cracks, or losses noted on the case or the emblem.
- The hinge opens cleanly; both photo wells are empty.
- Clasp and jump-ring holding strength, hinge play under repeated use, and full chain length are untested.
Please see the photos and read the description for full details. MarkingsEngraved on the inner rim, visible when the locket is open, is a co-joined two-letter maker's mark followed by a "12KGF" purity stamp. 12KGF means gold filled: a bonded layer of 12 karat gold over a base-metal core. It is not solid gold, and no karat-gold content is claimed. The maker's mark best reads as W.&H. Jewelry Co. Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island, a documented WWII-era maker of sweetheart jewelry — offered as the best-supported reading of a partly worn engraving, not a certainty. About this itemSweetheart jewelry like this was bought or sent home during the war so a wife or sweetheart could wear a piece of her Marine's insignia.
