Available for purchase is a beautiful, highly collectible vintage turned-wood lacquer trinket bowl or powder box, hand-painted in the legendary Petrikovka (Petrykivka) folk art tradition of Ukraine during the Soviet era.
This piece carries incredible historical provenance, retaining its original restricted-access retail tag on the base.
Historical Highlights:- Beriozka Store Label: The underside of the bowl retains its authentic original paper tag from the legendary "Березка" (Beriozka / Bereska) state-run currency stores. These restricted shops only accepted foreign hard currency, catering strictly to foreign tourists, diplomats, and elite Soviet officials.- Traditional Ukrainian Artistry: The lid features a stunning, vibrant hand-painted floral display showcasing massive layered red, orange, and golden blossoms with striking green foliage. The brushwork uses classic Petrykivka multi-tone layering techniques over a smooth black lacquer base.
Dimensions:- Diameter: Approximately 5 inches wide across the lid (exact measurements shown against the tape measure in listing photos).
Condition Report & Flaws:This item is in good, structurally sound vintage condition with authentic character:- Rim Wear (Noted Flaw): There is noticeable paint flaking, lacquer loss, and rubbing along the upper interior seating rim of the lower bowl where the lid makes contact (please see close-up pictures 4 and 5). This is hidden from view when the lid is completely closed.- Surface & Interior: The main painted design on the lid remains beautifully bright, glossy, and intact with only minor superficial shelf scuffs. The interior of the bowl and lid are clean and free of cracks, structural splits, or warping.- Bottom Tag: The original paper Beriozka store tag is firmly attached to the base with authentic vintage age-toning.
Shipping Care:Vintage lacquerware requires gentle padding. The bowl and lid will be wrapped separately in soft, non-abrasive tissue paper before being encased in heavy bubble wrap to prevent surface friction.
