EXCELLENT cond - An authentic early WW1 circa 1915 French anti-German satirical propaganda postcard. The detailed text directly referencing the human shield atrocities at Charleroi and Mont-sur-Marchienne combined with the incredible handwritten letter from November 1915 makes this an intensely historical piece. The highly dramatic, sepia-toned illustration is titled L Armure de Guillaume le Preux (The Armor of William the Brave) and features a composition concept by J. Monpelas de Dax with artwork drawn and signed by the artist Andre Robert, dated 1914. The powerful illustration depicts a spectral, colossal Kaiser Wilhelm II in a spiked Pickelhaube helmet looming over a grim scene of German imperial soldiers holding civilians at gunpoint. Below the artwork, explicit text descriptions detail historical early war atrocities committed during the invasion of Belgium, noting that at Charleroi near the Waterloo gate, the Germans forced ten miners to march in front of their troops, and at Mont-sur-Marchienne, they placed women, children, and civilian miners ahead of their advancing forces to act as human shields. The reverse side functions as a classic French Carte Postale and features an authentic handwritten message in dark ink dated 9 November 1915 from Toug (Toul sector), written by a sender updating family members (addressed to Monsieur Emile Heon, a cultivator in Maxey-sur-Vaise, Meuse department). The postcard remains in excellent, crisp antique condition with sharp corners and minimal edge wear — see scans of both sides. If you are collecting Antique or Vintage postcards for their future value, then beware of reproductions, as only GENUINE ORIGINAL ones like ours will substantially increase in value!
